What drives me as a makeup artist:
There's nothing like seeing the look on a woman's face when she looks in the mirror and says, “Wow, I look great!” or “This is the best I've ever looked!” - not the best her makeup has looked, but the best she has looked. You can't beat that. I love to discover and focus on what's already beautiful about a woman’s face and enhance it so she can relax and feel confident. When I create a look for a client, there are no rules or absolutes, only what will make her glow because she feels beautiful.
My path in the biz:
I began doing makeup in Texas in the 1980s, when it was all about crazy blue eye shadow, purple mascara and fuchsia lipstick. As a makeup artist, it was a lot of fun but you couldn’t look at a woman and see who she was. I found myself yearning to create a more natural look, to make my clients look pretty and not like a fantasy. This led me to work for Bobbi Brown for 20 years, at counter, on the road nationally and globally, and as her assistant on countless shoots, fashion shows and events.
Along the way I’ve also pursued other types of makeup assignments from tv and fashion to press junkets and editorial gigs.
After all these years, I found the thing I’ve come to enjoy most is working with brides and special event clients on location and in their homes. It’s a real honor to be chosen to interpret and bring to life the image a woman has of herself when all eyes will be on her. I just love the whole process of discovering that look and seeing her smile when she looks in the mirror.
